We’re Here to Help

Mark Petersen | President & CEO

I’m learning how to live generously in ways that empower, not create, dependency. I invested a decade working for charities in Latin America and Asia before leading a prominent private Canadian foundation in 2000. For the next 15 years, I pioneered ways to make family philanthropy more meaningful and impactful. I created Stronger Philanthropy in 2015 to share my experience with additional grantmakers who love giving well. I just received my DMin degree from George Fox University where I researched generational leadership shifts occurring in family philanthropy. I’m based in the town of St Stephen, New Brunswick, but travel frequently across Canada to visit clients.

Nate Petersen | Program Director

I’ve been learning about family philanthropy for the past thirteen years, serving as a grantmaking committee member for Bridgeway Foundation, and now on the board of a New Brunswick-based family foundation. Being involved in the philanthropic process from an early age led me to live, volunteer, and travel abroad extensively, learning from a variety of community leaders in places like Colombia, Cambodia, Spain, and Dadaab refugee camp in northeastern Kenya. I’ve been inspired by the people that I’ve met who exemplify innovative community development. I’m a graduate of St Stephen’s University, and currently reside in Oakville, Ontario. I am both honoured and thrilled to be a part of the team!
